Spruce Up Your Spring with Unexpected Garden Containers

It’s that time of year again, and after a long cold winter, flowers are like a little bit of happiness therapy.

Last year’s edition of Not Your Typical Garden Containers featured paint cans, hats, purses and even a bike. Although there are many beautiful styles and colors of garden planters, I believe using a little bit of the unexpected adds fun to decorating. What better place to be unpredictable than in the garden?

The photo above from HGTV is a fun way to recycle an old picnic basket and those unused plastic pieces of tableware. Wouldn’t this be cute near your outdoor dining space?

Bug Garden

How about this Beetle bed from Impress Magazine? Talk about using the unexpected. What do you think?

Hanging Tea Garden

Do you need a way to display your teapot collection? Take notes from Impress Magazine and hang them from a stair railing or around the edge of your deck. If you don’t have enough teapots, keep the theme going by alternating teapots with teacups.

Teapot Planter

Or grow herbs on a table or windowsill, like Rustic White Photography, if you only have one.

I love this collection of antiques on display from Hort Couture. It’s a great way to get creative if your a gardener who likes to change things up every year.

Remember when you plan your landscaping it’s important to extend the garden area beyond the dimensions of your home.

Wellies Planters

Need an idea of outgrown wells? Look at what Jo-Marshall did.

Crocs Planter

Or crocs? Don’t throw them in the trash. Fill them with dirt and start planting, like Kerry Michaels.

Baby Buggy Planter

How cute is this? One of the commenters on Isobel and Cat‘s post asked, “What should we name her? Petunia?” Admit it. That made you smile.

Flower Bed

And finally, dream away with Olive Branch Floral on the Flower Bed…

So, let your creativity flow. Your garden is a place to relax and refresh. It should soothe you and make you happy. Make it uniquely yours by using atypical containers. Anything that will hold dirt and makes you smile is perfect.

What’s your favorite garden container?
